Hey Guys,
So, I am nearly done with my apps, however, I have issues with the SOP- my SOP is extremely long 1200 words, and I was just wondering what issues professors would have with this.

If your SOP is too long does it affect your application? I am not asking about hearsay but what people have heard from professors. Because I wrote long SOPs last year and got some interviews, based on my SOP according to the professors. But I am thinking of trimming it down incase they could reject me on that basis

I think 1200 might be OK if it flows well. You can try to shorten it, but be careful you don’t edit the hell out of it.

I went with three double-spaced pages - 775 words. 1200 words is quite a lot… are you sure there’s nothing you can slim down out of it without changing the meaning?

he issue is I have already submitted it to tons of schools (10). I was sick, and so could not do much editing for schools that had december 15 deadlines. I would have to reedit to make it less than a 1000 for the rest of the schools but I am freaking out for the ones I have already turned in.

It flows quite well, long is long though whether it flows or not. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people who frequent graduate school forums, so I never learned about how important the length is,

Problem was, last year when I applied lots of professors like my 1000+ SOP, I though I should attach an extra 200 to mention what I am currently doing now.

I would have to edit it, but I am worried about my already submitted applications.
