How long will to take to transfer to Michigan from WVU/What do I need to do

Hello,

I am currently a student at West Virginia University, and while I think this school is very cool (and I am strongly considering this option way too early than I should be), I really want to transfer to the University of Michigan. I never ended up applying to Michigan because I knew I wouldn’t have gotten in. I did pretty good in high school, but nothing too spectacular (low 3’s for GPA, 1200s for SAT, and high 20’s for ACT). Now that I am in college, I have made a promise to myself that I am putting academics as my #1 priority. I am taking some fairly challenging courses, but nothing too difficult. I plan on going into either Communications or something else in LSA. I plan on keeping my GPA at around 3.7, with an overall goal of having a 4.0. If I can maintain and achieve these goals, how long do you think it would take for me to transfer to Michigan. I know that thinking about transferring this early isnt logical, but it has been something on my mind since before I even came here. Please, no snarky or rude answers, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,

NOTE: I am a resident of Michigan,

Are you about to start your first year at WVU?

Yes I am. I know, it’s weird that I am considering transferring after literally 4 days of starting school, but it’s just how I feel, and I have my reasons.

You can find information about transferring right on their website. Note that UM does consider high school performance, but the closer you are to having 60 earned credits, the less weight they will place on your high school record. You will not have much in the way of demonstrated success in college until you spend at least one full year at WVU, and it looks like you are better off applying for transfer your junior year.
