How long will your essays be?

Out of curiosity, how long are your essays (or how long do you plan to make them)?

My HS recommended no more than one page single spaced, so mine is floating around 540 words, yet I have friends who will be submitting 2-4 pages and that never makes you feel good!

So...what will yours be? (I guess this is something of a survey)

500 words.

I don’t mean to brag, but I’m a fairly decent writer, and 540 is perfectly reasonable. The more concisely you can say something, the better it probably is. You’re fine.

I have everything I need to say in there, since too long seems braggy.

4 pages is WAY too long.

1-2 pages single spaced is fine.

Most of my essays are less than one page single spaced.

Most nonfiction writing is supposed to be as concise as possible; college admission essays are no different. That said, you can include a lot of stuff: My rough drafts were very long, but than I went back and cut down the size in half.
