How many acceptees took AP classes? (nt)

no message

My guess 100% ! and they took as many as the school offered or their schedule allowed!

If the school doesn't offer APs, that does not count against the applicant. However, it will be noticed by Admissions if the school offers APs and the applicant hasn't taken any APs at all.

My mid took eleven AP classes earning mostly A grades, a couple of B's, with scores of 4 and 5 on the tests she took. The honors program at her high school sent more kids to CalTech than any other high school in the nation the year before she graduated and most of the students in her AP Calculus class were juniors, one brainiac was a sophomore. She found that somewhat disconcerting because math/science is not her favorite subject. One of her high school calculus classmates is a youngster majoring in math.

My son didn't take any AP classes at all. He was however in the IB program. I only bring that up so others realize that they sometimes have a choice. Most schools have some AP classes. Some schools; only about 500 in the entire country; has the IB program. If you are interested in the IB program, then AP classes aren't required. The academies want to see that their applicants took the hardest classes available. The IB program fits that bill.

IB as well as AP is a standardized curriculum recognized by colleges/universities across the US. Maybe the BGOs on this forum can address the issue of rigor in high school academics.

My son took six AP classes that I can recall.

Mine took a bunch. Don't remember how many, but it was as many as was possible given scheduling.

I took 4: APUSH, Calc AB (with a little BC), AP English, AP Chem

I took 5: AP Comparative Government and Politics, Art History, Both English Tests, Calculus BC and Chemistry.

I've only taken three: BC Calculus, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics, and I'll be joining the Class of 2012 in June.

Our son (USMA 2012) has taken only 2 AP's: US History and currently AP Euro History. (Others offered at this high school include AP Chem, AP Biology, AP English, AP Calc, and AP Music Theory.) However, he has taken the Accelerated, Honors and Pre-AP coursework in all subjects throughout his 4 years, as well as Dual Enrollment English for college credit.

This high school operates on a 4x4 semester block which means a year's-worth of curriculum is taught in one semester for each subject. It also means the students are taking AP courses in the fall that they are not being tested over until spring, so our school's scores on AP don't always indicate the quality of instruction from the course. To correct some of these problems, newer state and national mandates have made the overall curriculum more rigorous in the regular classes, and AP courses will now cover a whole year rather than only one semester, making it difficult for students to get all of their academic requirements in and still elect to take the AP courses.

I know USMA looks at the school system, the number of AP courses offered and taken, their overall state standing in ACT scores, the rigors and expectations of the high school, etc. when considering the applicant. Though our son had fewer AP courses than many applicants will, this school has the third highest ACT scores in the state and has been nominated for a Presidential Blue Ribbon School Award which says something for the course rigor in the regular classes.

Yeah, my school had a 4x4 block system. It was OK, but they had to include some sort of review (either a class or group sessions outside of class) to keep AP students up on their information.

Just asked my son (soon to be going to USAFA). He reported taking 6 AP classes.

I took 7:AP BC Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP US History, AP English Language, AP World History, AP English Literature, and AP European History. BC Calculus was during my junior year so I took multivariable calculus first semester and now I am in linear algebra, but they don't have an AP exam for those courses.

I took six in high school.
