6 in all, the rest honors (my school's a public magnet). I figure, why take random AP classes that I am not interested in when I can take a more specified and more intellectual class in my field of interest? Frankly, I think APs are a bit overrated and its pointless to sit around and compare numbers with other hyperperfectionist overachievers. Why can't we all just stop competing with one another and focus on our own education, rather than saying "Go me, I took 13 APs before senior year. Colleges will hate you if you don't take every one."

*Sorry if I cause offense, I don't mean to. I just get kinda fed up with these boards.

Sometimes said classes are not necessarily available by easy means, although some self-study to get around it.

Good point, kman. I think APs are great, especially when they are the best courses your school offers. I'm more responding to people who are critical when one chooses NOT to take an AP for one reason or another. I've had lots of people at my school insult me for my choices simply cause I'm taking a few less APs than them. Just wanted to clarify. Also, some of my favorite classes I've taken have been my APs (Euro especially). I just get tired of all the competition on these boards.

Peace.

:-)

^ I agree. The only reason I'm taking APs is because I need a challenge in school (I'm probably going to end up in a state school anyway). I want to leave having learned something, not having slept through six classes four years straight. In my school, many of the regular classes are simple, boring, and pointless, even by the standards of underachievers. AP classes are where the students who really want to learn go. However, if there is an honors or regular class that is fun or challenging, I would be perfectly willing to drop an AP for it if I could get a similar experience out of it.

Euro, Apush, Chem, Physics, Calc BC (took AB and BC together), AP Bio, AP Span Lang (in going to fail it for sure)

7 Total AP classes

2 IB SL class: Math studies (nice and easy after calc), SL Chem (same as AP chem)

3 IB HL classes : History of the Americas HL, IB BIO (same as Ap bio), IB HL English

you guys are scary.

I'm only taking a grand total of 3 next year (took 2 my junior year! Chem and Euro, which just about killed me), AP English, Francais, and Calc. I dropped AP Enviro, cause well, when it came down to it and I was working on the summer assignment (okay, I admit, I started before school ended), the information did not excite me to passionately flip through the pages and want to learn all that I possibly could. Quite au contraire. So I dropped it, in favour of another course :) That is NOT AP, btw.

So don't think you have to kill yourself with APs! A girl from my school got into Yale this year with a total of 3 AP classes throughout high school.

Soph-Bio
Junior-Chem, French, CompSci AB, USH
Senior-Phys B, French Lit, Eng Lit, Calc BC, Econ (1 class, 2 tests)
So 10 total, 11 tests. The rest honors/accelerated (this is the same thing at my school)

If I don't chicken out, I'll have 13 APs, 17 honors, and one college course (math) by the time I graduate.

Freshman - 1 AP
Sophomore - 1 AP
Junior - 5 APs
Senior - 6 APs and 1 college math course

^^^why do that to yourself
