I'm currently an incoming junior, and I was planning on taking 5 APs my junior year (calc bc, english, chem, bio, econ). I was wondering, how many is average for the accepted student into Stanford? What would be the minimum amount of APs I should have completed/started in order to apply EA to Stanford?

Thanks!!!

Average is probably just “the most competitive schedule available at your school.” You don’t need to drown yourself in AP classes, but if your school offers ~25 and it’s feasible to take many of them (especially if others are taking a ton) then you should.

So just take enough to be competitive with other people at your school. You don’t NEED to have the most AP classes, nor do you need to have ANY to get in (theoretically). There is no minimum. However, unless you are absolutely amazing in some area other than grades, you should probably take the most difficult schedule offered that you can manage.

As many as you want and can handle.

There really is no minimum amount, just take on the most challenging courses that your school has available, and above all, make sure you can handle it! You don’t want to be drowning in school!

I’m just about to finish up my junior year, and like you, took 5 APs. While the classes were phenomenal, I can safely say that the amount of sleep deprivation I experienced was definitely unhealthy. I literally spent 5-6 hours each night just finishing homework for all of my classes, it’s definitely not a choice for the weak. Make sure you’re disciplined enough to stick it out the entire year
