I am a rising Junior and i would like to major in industrial engineering. So far my college lists consists of:

Ohio State University

University of Central Florida
3.University of Tennessee
4.Louisiana State University
5.University of Houston
6.Ohio State University

...and possibly Purdue and Texas A&M
Are these too many options?

In addition, I would like to know if when putting down extra curricular's do I need to include only high school and up?

There is no magic number. Typically 6-8 schools. 3 Reach schools, 3 Match schools and 2 Safety schools. Reach school - highly selective admissions. Match school - your GPA and test scores are right in line with the averages. Safety school - your GPA and test scores are measurably above the average of admitted students.

If you are applying for need based financial aid, that is a ton of work on top of the actual application. Even if your parents are doing most of that paperwork, don’t torture them by upping your number too much. I think 8 schools is a good number.

I only have my one dream school in mind (it’s not very selective), and i’m applying early action, so there’s some more time to apply to others if I don’t get accepted.

You should apply as much as you can. I know friends who applied 30, 25, 29, etc… I applied 22. It becomes a big number because you MUST have safety schools as well. As a highschool student, you only apply to colleges once in your life time. Don’t do something you will regret.

I’m applying to 10+ schools, but I’m only going to submit my ED and EA applications (my ED school does not ask for an application fee). If I don’t get in by ED, I will then submit my other applications, along with the fees.
