How Many Colleges Should I Apply to?

I know I’m repeating myself, but if those three reaches are Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, this isn’t the best advice.

Absolutely, Hunt, you’re definitely right. Your reaches, matches, and safeties have to be realistic - based on your personal achievements and not on the schools you wish you could go to. Guidance Counselors are tremendous resources for help in coming up with realistic schools for each category. The College Confidential community is a good group to bounce your list and chances off of as well.

lol, not at my school.

10-12 seems like a good number right now.

I have a tentative list of schools that I want to apply to:
MIT (Reach)
Olin (Reach)
Harvard (Reach)
UChicago (Match?)
Fordham (Safety)
Cornell (Reach)
UGA (Safety)
Vanderbilt (Match)
Duke (Match/Reach)
UMichigan (Match)
Stanford (Reach)

Try what I did. I did 6 likelies and 6 reaches. Of those likelies, two were safeties.

UChi is a reach and so is Duke. The list looks pretty decent.

Vanderbilt is a reach, too.
