How Many Essays

I was just wondering how many to send (I couldn't stress my low verbal SAT score more). Here's what I have on the Reed appl. checklist:
1) Personal St.(commonapp)
2) Why Reed?
3) Writing Sample (a recent expository, research, or creative writing paper)
*can be of academic nature
4) A supplemental essay.(i dont have a clue)
5) A second personal IF YOU ARE DONE WITH THE FIRST ONE AND WANT TO SEND IN A SECOND ONE!! (the one I am least excited about)
I might as well apply to an ivy if I have to write these many essays to write!!
But not that bad: 3 done 2 to go!

If you fill out Reed's own ap, you have basically one essay to write, plus the graded essay from a class, plus the "Why Reed" essay. Surely you have a general, all-purpose essay that you can recycle to different colleges. And surely you have a graded piece of writing from a class. And surely, if you decide to apply to Reed you can explain why. This isn't very burdensome. My son did it (and got in). Back when I applied many years ago, there was another essay -- from a parent. My mother wrote an essay about me. Now that was an interesting approach.

I am done with all the three essays.
But what is the Reed supplemental essay option for? An extra Personal Statement?
I guess I am not gonna be able to send that extra essay by one week anyway, with Final Examinations and all.
Is 3 a good no. of essays to send?

I'm applying to Reed to and I don't recall hearing about the supplemental essay.... All i thought applicants were required to do was send in the common app essay (assuming you're doing the common app), the Why Reed Essay and the graded expository paper.

Consult the viewbook they have specified a "Supplemental Essay" for RD applicants. But it is totally up to you how many you want to send. I am sending in 3 the ones mentioned ^.
