Hi! I am currently almost done my freshmen year and have to start picking classes for next year. My goal is to go to Tulane because I love New Orleans. How many honors classes do you recommend I take in sophomore, junior, and senior year to get into Tulane? I am currently in no honors classes at my high school and they do not have any AP classes. It is a top school in the Philly area
Hi Juilia.14,
I am a currently a junior and have taken my share of honors/AP/college classes. My advice to you is to pursue the subjects that you are interested in and taken more advanced classes in those fields. Don’t feel like you need to take advanced everything to get into your dream school. For example, if you genuinely despise physics then there is no need to take AP Physics (or maybe just honors physics, or whatever advanced classes are called at your school) just to “look good” on your transcript. Colleges want a well rounded CLASS, not well rounded students. You don’t have to be good at everything to get into Tulane or anywhere else. Focus on what you love/are interested in and keep up your good grades. Good luck!
Take the classes that are appropriate for you. You will then find the right college for you. There is no magic number of advanced classes to take. Every high school is different. Take a challenging program of classes and do well and you will have a choice of colleges to choose from.
