^^My anecdotal impression is that at the biggest high school in New Haven, the top 3 or 4 students each year are customarily offered admission. Added to that are a few from other schools. Contrast that to posts on this thread saying that admissions to Yale are rare.

I had a feeling that your numbers were a bit generous. I am friends with the Director of College & Career Pathways for the NHPS. She says that it’s roughly 2-3 for the whole public school district/in a good application cycle. JHHS hasn’t had much luck with Yale in a long time from what I’ve been told by their college counselor. 2 students from DDs school were accepted for the class of 2018. One being my dtr and the other a student whose dad is the master of one of the residential colleges. He opted for P’ton. I believe 10-11 kids applied.

Amistad sent 2 kids to Yale and Cross sent 2 if memory serves me correctly this year.

It’s hard to pin down the number since Yale does not publish anything official. But New Haven Promise (scholarship program widely available to public school students) said that 10 Promise students were admitted to Yale for fall 2014. This number fluctuates. Only four Promise students were accepted in 2012, and I know that none were even valedictorian or salutatorian, who, according to my recollection, did not apply.

But whatever the number, my point is relevant to the OP and other posters on this thread saying that from their high schools’–some of which are significantly larger than Cross, the biggest New Haven HS–no one has ever been admitted to Yale.

At Cross, if you are first or second in the class, your chances are more than excellent.

I believe this young man was #1 or #2 at Career High School.

If you follow this link there’s a slide show of New Haven Register/Yale Youths of the Year showing where many of the top students from New Haven and the region are attending college.

And New Haven Promise should shortly publish it’s list of 2024 Promise Scholars and where they are attending.

I have the Promise booklet/ list from the scholarship event that was held in August at the Omni Hotel. We were discussing Yale and how many students are accepted from each school. I was just adding to the discussion.
