I know that a lot of people say just to ask for 2 or 3 letters of rec. I plan on getting 2 teachers (as most colleges want to see) and 1 counselor. However, I would also love to have letters of rec from my CS teacher that just left the school and from my mentor at the place where I intern. Could my CS teacher still count as a teacher rec even though she left the school? I know this is too many letters of rec otherwise. Which ones should I try to get?

If you had someone in high school as a teacher, they can do a teacher rec even if they are now former teachers.

How many and from whom you submit them depends on the college. You need to check carefully before sending more than requested because many that require recs state that you should not send anything more than requested. In other wortds, if they allow more, you can send more. If they don’t, then don’t send more.
