I'm from Michigan and I was just wondering how much of a minority northerners are at Vandy. This really wouldn't have any affect on my decision, but I think it would be a fun experience to have an experience where the demographic is not only diverse racially but regionally.

Here's the link to Vandy's webpage on geographic diversity:
Admissions: Vanderbilt University

Out of an undergraduate body of 6500, it shows:

229 from the West Coast
341 from New England
1041 from the mid-Atlantic
~810 from the Midwest (never sure exactly which states are considered Midwest), including 45 from Michigan
250-plus from the plains, mountain, and western regions

^^^The link in Frazzled's post includes a detailed list of the states and countries from which the undergraduates hail. Keep in mind also that there are many graduate students and professional students on campus, and many of them are internationals. If you get involved in research, you will almost definitely be interacting with graduate students and guest researchers, and chances are good they will be a diverse lot.

Every year it becomes less Southern and more Not Southern.

Most of the students from the South sound like everyone else. There is a relaxing southern atmosphere on campus, but the kids are from everywhere...
