wow. that one was below the belt, bro.

Quit trying to sabotage my thread, banter is for the late night thread. ;)

ewwwwwwww.

Nobody puts baby in the corner :(

I’ve got all the pre-requisites for EECS and a good GPA, but I decided to go for Letters and Science Computer Science instead. I like the Bachelor of Art option better.

I HATE the thought of mandatory breadth. If I’m going to be obligated to take classes, I want them to be relevant to my major. The language requirement isn’t a big issue for me because you can test out of it, but it just serves as an example of how lame breadth can be. IMO, obviously.

man i wanna get into EECS!!!

@arcadefire I just noticed you said you had all the prereqs. So you have the 61abc, discrete math or calculus based statistics, and EE20 and EE40? Not to mention, all lower division math courses and the fundamentals of physics series?

Discrete math, all the math courses, physics, and 61abc yeah (or at least close stuff…I’m applying from another UC so we have similar courses). Didn’t realize EE classes were requirements though, so I take my statements back, haha.

Can we turn this into a general Eng thread? Us MEs feel left out :(

Is there anyone who trying to take summer course in Berkeley??

Is it possible to register summer course after I got the admission or too late?

I heard something from my friend that he said we have to finish all the courses in fifth semester to graduate berkeley. Is there anyone knows about this?

I forgot you were applying from a UC, arcadefire. I’m still jealous.

@brocoli Yeah, I plan to take 61A. I’m going to wait till I get admission. It might be too late, but there are still spots open now…

And your friend was right. You can petition for an extra semester and EECS transfers usually get it.

…although I did not apply for admission this year, but will be applying for fall 2011

Major: EECS
Overall GPA: 3.94
Major GPA: 4.00
Units completed so far: 71, including:
Calc I, II, III (multivariable), DE/LA
Physics 1A (mechanics of solids), 1B (Fluids, Heat, Sound)
CS1 (C++), CS2 (Data Structures), Discrete Math

Units that remain to be completed:
Physics 1C (E & M)
Physics 1D (Optics and Modern Physics)
Chem 1A (General Chem)
CS 30 (Advanced programming in C++)

Oh, and BTW, I have virtually no ECs, but I am an older student and do work full time.

Thanks for posting Victor, you are a shoe-in and I’m glad to not be competing with you this year.

P.S. Working full-time is an EC, make sure to note it on your app.

are you guys majoring in EECS just for the money?

lol, i don’t think anyone goes into / or should go into engineering for the money…go to finance related majors if you want to follow the money

@victor,

good luck for physics 1c, and make sure it doesn’t kill your gpa,…its crazy tough

I’m actually interested in the subject itself and the research potential; A.I./control specifically. But the monetary aspect is reassuring. It’s also helpful when dealing with friends and family, as it’s money that people understand/respect.

@Lukem You go to the same school as Victor?

Empathy, thanks for the words of encouragement! Even though I work full time, I always fear that my lack of ECs (especially since my work is completely unrelated to my major) may affect my chances. Actually, that is EXACTLY the reason I’m going back to school! I simply do not enjoy what I do, although I’ve been pretty successful at it from a purely “career” perspective. I’m a “technical guy” with a liking for anything science-related. I somehow have to work that into my essays!

…and that leads to my next response: My situation is pretty much living proof that I’m not doing this simply for the money. I make a pretty good living at my current job in the Financial industry (although the overall situation is not too good right now - but it’s a cycle like everything else)

To Lukem: I’m @ El Camino College, and yes, if you go there too, you know that we probably have one of the toughest physics depts in the CCC system. So much so, that I’ve known a couple of students who actually went to Santa Monica College to take their Physics series!! …but I have my “sleeves all rolled up and ready to go” for Physics 1C …I know it’s not going to be a cake-walk, for sure! :)

@victor5555 ,Why didn’t you apply to EECS this year?

I think you have a good chance to get into EECS if you applied this year.

I’m so happy to not compete with you this year.

I’ve read that there well over 9000 applicants.
