How many places to apply to ?

How many schools are good to apply to? I think im applying to 4 is that enough or too much?

It is not the absolute number of the schools that you apply to that counts it is the distribution of Reach/Match/Safety that determines whether you will be successful in getting admitted to a prep school.

If all of your schools are reaches, there is no number that is adequate to assure acceptance.

Conversely, having more than 2 safety schools probably is a waste of application fees.

From looking at your other posts to determine the 4 schools, I would say that none of them are safeties. If your desire is name-brand school or none (returning to you local options), that is fine. Otherwise, I would be looking for a safety. I can suggest offline, as I prefer not to call anyone's school a safety in the public forum.

Choate is a reach for everyone (much like an Ivy) and even your others may be on the reach end, depending upon the rigor of your current school (as I remember you are a B to B+ student). From a good feeder school, that GPA with reinforcing SSAT scores could make much of the remaining list a match situation.

Of course, your level of athletic skill is the joker in the deck. If one of the coaches decides that you are a top 1 or 2 prospect, it will make up for a lot of other sins, given that you meet the overall academic profile of the school.

What I'm saying is that I don't have enough information to assure you of anything at this point.

Oh, by the way, my roommate and all of her friends are all hockey players, and made Varsity. Choate loves hockey players, but I don't know how many people can get on the team next year with the influx of new players.

i'm applying to 5.

Diddo. 5 for me. A girl can only shell out so many application fees :)

Crickett where in CT are you from? I'm from central Connecticut. Are you applying to UConn? Trinity? Yale, possibly?

I'm from Wilton. Which is also in central-western CT. Borders New Canaan and Ridgefield.

When college rolls around, you bet your bottom that I'm applying to Yale :)

You?

haha, i want to apply to Yale too! tribe567: you do know your on a prepschool page right, not college?

what prep schools are you applying to Crickett?

I'm applying to Hotchkiss, Loomis, Blair, MPS, and St. Georges

NellyRae: I wasn't aware haha...I just searched by recent posts...thought this was college...whoops!

Ah, New Canaan and Ridgefield, two very rich towns. I'm assuming Wilton is too if it is in that neck of the woods. I'm from Berlin, its in the exact center of the state. Well I'm not Yale material, nor do I want to spend that amount of money but my top choices right now are Holy Cross (Mass.), Providence College, and UConn because I probably can get scholarships there.

crickett: have you been to the Hotchkiss campus? what do you like about that school?

NellyRae: you are going to a prep school for high school?

i'm sure hoping to!

but there is that little matter of getting into a prep school that i have to worry about. haha. :)

I didn't even realize you had to apply to prep schools. I always thought that you can just go there if you have the money. A girl that I know went to Choate and a couple of my teachers taught at Mrs. Porters. I also took my ACT's at Choate - It is about 40 grand a year but the campus is really nice. I don't know how it compares to other schools. Certainly Mrs. Porters is prestigious (I can't tell if you're a girl or not though!)

I'm definitely a girl, haha. For me it's not a go-if-you-have-the-money-thing, it's a cross-your-fingers-and-hope-you-get-in-with-a-full-scholarship-thing.

Haha. I am a girl :)

Janelle--- I have yet to visit Hotchkiss but my friend Lara visited and said it was absolutley amazing. Go on the virtual tour on the website! Its to die for!

Ah, I see. Well I hope you get a scholarship then. It's like paying a full college tuiton if you don't! I'm trying to get scholarships to college this year :)

Now please excuse me for a little, UConns back from halftime ;)

haha. go watch that game! who are you rooting for?

i'll go look at hotchikiss. i'm seriosuly reconsidering replacing taft with hotchkiss.

Eek!! More competition for Crickett!!
