1 counselor?does it have to be from my College guidance counselor or just my own guidance counselor?

for every college, there needs to be an official letter of support from your high school guidance counselor/college office.

I went to a JHU informative meeting in California and the senior admissions representative said 4 recs (including counselor rec) is the maximum number of recs that JHU will accept

WealthofInformation is right about the required (min) # of recs

Two are required: one from a core subject teacher and one from your guidance counselor. Those need to be submitted using the common app forms online. You are allowed two additional, but those need to be mailed directly to the admissions office.
