In my town, the GC's have not even mentioned SATIIs to the sophomores. D's friend is ranked #1 and only knows about them because we pass on our GC materials to her. I wonder how many kids are stuck cramming in tests at the last minute?

Lots of kids get stuck that way. Some of them end up having to take SAT II tests in subjects they haven't studied for a year or more.

At my kids' schools, and I suspect many others, guidance meetings about the college admissions process begin in 11th grade. This is way too late for kids who are applying to selective colleges that require SAT II tests. In many instances, kids would be well advised to take SAT IIs on the basis of courses they took in 10th grade -- in a few cases, even 9th grade. But if the kids don't know this, they don't sign up. I have seen kids trying to prepare for the U.S. History SAT II a year after the end of their AP U.S. History class. This is ridiculously inefficient.

Ooh, Marian. Me bad. Turns out s. took AP Government this yr, not US History. So, given that, there probably isn't another subject test he can easily take in June. He could take physics but (a) doesn't want to and (b) this stays in the math/science realm. I guess I need to let him enjoy his summer :)

By the way, I did call Collegeboard to see if the $$ we paid for the June SAT could be applied to sending out scores to schools rather than just to rescheduling or changing a test. Anyone want to take a wild guess what they said? :D Oh well, I guess we paid $42.50 for piece of mind and to keep our options open.
