How Math is taught at Exeter

D was speaker at parents’ night re: math courses. Five other students were there – all in different classes, but seemingly overlapping. I did not understand why one class was different from other, and to a certain extent the students were not fully aware of the differences – but surely well more aware than I.

But, all were onto it. They were math asute.

Few observations: kids learned with one another – amazing concept.

Kids learned why as opposed to rote – like why is 3.14 what we call Pie the magic number.

Kids seemed into it, not lost as some think they may become.

And, they killed the standardized tests. Boy, do they ever. Never forget D got lowest score on PSAT in her dorm – which would have been merit scholar in our state. Can’t say this entirely derivative of teaching – the student body has special skills coming in (which probably includes well above average skills in taking SSAT etc).

I think it would be interesting…
