How much (and which way) will merit offerings be affected by COVID?

My daughter has a couple of larger public universities on her list that include a history generous merit for out of state students based upon their test scores and GPA - in particular University of South Carolina and University of Alabama Tuscaloosa.

Do you think that schools will pull back on these offerings for 2021-22 due to financial issues related to COVID or will they be looking to continue their pursuit of high achieving out of state students (who may be looking closer to home) and keep the awards the same or even make them more attractive?

I’m thinking it could go either way…

There is no way that we can predict this. It is one more thing to wait-and-see about.

Not what you wanted to read, I know. Chances are that the institutions themselves still have not notion at all of what they will do.

@3kids2dogs I am wondering the same thing and my D also has those 2 schools on her list.

@3kids2dogs Wondering same here, but for LAC and mid-sized private uni’s that typically give merit aid.

Answer, have no idea! A crystal ball would be nice.
