How much could my mistake affect my application?

Sorry, I know there have been a lot of these types of questions recently, but my mistake isn't as simple as a grammar or spelling error.

I wrote my common application short activity essay months ago and talked about the experiences I had in one of my activities and, in the last sentence, related that to my academic and vocational plans at the time. So I uploaded that to my application and forgot about it.

And since then my plans have completely changed. I had a realization about what it was that I really wanted to study (which isn't similar to what I used to want to study AT ALL), and I wrote a lot of my essays about what it was that led to that realization. The essays showed a lot of passion, and I was pretty happy with them...until I realized that I had never changed my activity essay.

So basically, all my essays say I want to study one thing and my activity essay just sort of contradicts them. Admissions officers will probably read them all and wonder what the heck I was thinking.

So...how much should I be worrying right now?

You could probably e-mail your colleges with a revised Short Answer and ask them if they would take the change into consideration.

Okay, I’ll try that. Thanks for your help!
