How much do/did you involve your children on the family financials prior to college application?

The fact is in my family (which is definitely not the case in others) that my finances (my H. and mine) are NONE OF MY KIDS’ BUSINESS, period. Sorry if they feel otherwise, I doubt it, since they have not been nosy. However, if they feel otherwise, all I can say, sorry, back off, please…

@BayAreaFRP‌, If your kids are able to handle the numbers AND the realization that comers with it, then more power to you! I firmly believe in financial education for kids. Not everyone is willing to learn about all details. So, it differs from kid to kid. If what you do works with your kids, go for it!

DS is applying to a public school that asks for “Household Income” on the online application. U can’t leave the space blank. Since we’re not requesting FA, I don’t see how it’s any of the school’s business what our income is.

Any advice on what to put in the box? I don’t want to reveal to DS what we make.

How about n/a or 0? A hyphen? Some “I’m not answering” symbol?

More polite - “unknown”, “not sure”, etc.?

Maybe call the admissions office and ask whether/why they need that info if you aren’t applying for aid.

30 - interesting. Our kids did a very similar project in their regular consumer ed class. Maybe it is just our area. One of my sons came home asking a lot of questions. I do think that the project was only sort of realistic, however.
