I'm currently a junior, I'm enrolled in honors/AP classes and maintain a GPA around 3.8/3.9. One problem-I have essentially no extracurriculars. I'm part of the ski club at my school and I have many personal passions but I'm not really involved in the school or my community. I'm not looking into an Ivy League college or anything, but I am looking into some decent colleges such as Penn State University Park, and other large schools with diverse populations (so that extracurriculars may not matter as much). Do you think I still have a chance at a decent college? And is it too late to start getting involved in things now?

If you are looking in Penn State main campus, they only look into your grades, but if doesn’t hurt to have EC. Some schools value character as much as grades, so it would be a good idea to pick up some clubs to put in your application

Ok here is the plan, sign up to up to 14 clubs this year. Pick top 3 you really like. And then put the rest that you did not go to on your application. Enless your club teachers check your application there is no way anybody is going to find out! Plus some colleges allow only 5 spaces for your EC so you won’t need a billion of them to look good. Your GPA is good so best of luck!

My son was part of ski club and had taken karate from the age of 7 or 8 and quit his senior year. He worked parttime after from age of 15. This is all he had for EC. He was accepted at PSU main and is currently a freshman engineering major. He was also accepted to U of Del, Drexel, Virginia Tech, and U of Maryland all with merit aid ( not PSU). He got into the schools he wanted without tons of EC. I really don’t believe these even played a role in being accepted to those schools in his case.
