How much do Ivy league lcolleges look at sports

Hi, I have been reading for a while, but this is my first post. My question is how much do DIII, DII, and IV leauge schools value good atheleltes? I am currently a freshman in high school and am a good golfer and I would be a walk on for most strong academics colleges that are in DII or DIII. I am in all honors classes but my GPA is a little weak 3.75, I really want to go to a very strong academics college ex. CMU,UPenn,Harvard, Columbia, NYU, ect. So will these colleges accept me if I could be #1 or 2 on their golf team even though my GPA is not as high as others applying to the college?

Also I have a good amount of extracurriculars: Elected class rep in student council, FBLA, Varstiy golf team, JV Tennis team, 2nd degree black belt, tri lingual, science fair percipient, volunteer.

It depends on how good your team is. Some colleges do recruit golfers, but I think you’d have to be a strong golfer in a larger context than your average high school team. If you go to one of the schools that develops future professional golfers, that’s a different story.

I am aware that colleges dont really care about HS Golf teams stuff so I am playing national tournaments when I turn 16

Michelle Wie goes to Stanford.

You won’t know until you reach the competitive stage and see how you do.

our top golfer was recruited to Columbia, so it does happen. Of course, he was a varsity golfer at 14…

If your game progresses at the necessary pace, golf will be your meal ticket for college admission; if it doesn’t you’ll need to lean on the other factors of your candidacy. My recommendation is that, as a high school freshman only months out of middle school, focus on academics, friends and family, and activities that interest you, including golf. Time spent on the driving range is better than time spent trying to figure out an admissions cycle that is three years away! And good luck with your golf game (from an old 29-handicap duffer)!

With a 3.75 GPA as a freshman, you will likely need to be recruited if you’re considering Ivy League schools.

Thanks for the help guys, for those of you who know golf I am a 4 handicap with my last scores being 76,69,74. Due to recent swing changes and growth I think I will be able to be a +1 - 2 next year.

Hi, I have been reading this thread for a while but this is my furst post. “atheleltes” - if that is how you spell athletes, then you need to focus more on academics and spelling and less on changing your golf swing, Tiger.
