I know that Johns Hopkins, for example, does not have good IB recruitment but places students very well into top MBA programs. How much do top business grad schools care about the 3 or so years you work after college? If they care a lot, then I don't understand how Hopkins can't place students into good IB jobs for the few years before they go for MBAs, yet still has such good MBA placement.

since when does IB recruitment correspond to MBA placement? Hopkins has a good MBA placement because of it’s engineers. a lot of it’s engineering students go straight to some type of MBA.

I-bankers don’t make up an entire MBA class. In fact, they make up less than a quarter of a MBA class at a typical top b-school if I’m not mistaken.

You don’t need IB exactly to get into a top MBA school. You just need some kind of job where you have learned and done a lot in your respective field. It just happens that IB was quite rigorous for pre-MBA work. If you can find others then you are just as good.
