By Ivy-ish I meant in selectivity, not in quality.
UCLA and maybe the liberal arts colleges (none of which I’m particularly interested in, but I thought I’d throw them out there) are approaching that level of selectivity, but the other ones aren’t IMHO.

I didn’t ask if they care about ECs, I asked how much. As in, do my ECs suck so much that my other stuff can’t save me at, say, higher-ranked public schools that aren’t as holistic and often accept people with lower SATs?

Many state universities only look at GPA and SAT/ACT.

"It’s been awhile, but what does that mean? "

2340 and 33 are quite high for most State schools. So if a state school is claiming to be holistic, they are using that measure to admit someone for things other than scores and GPA. So the ECs would be considered to boost someone up with lower numbers.

“Many state universities only look at GPA and SAT/ACT.”

Which means they would say extracurriculars are “not considered” on the Common Data Set, right?
So would Ohio State be a safety beyond all reasonable doubt, or should I look for something less selective that has definite SAT/GPA cutoffs above which you’re guaranteed admission?
(For the past couple months I’ve thought of only applying there because it’s cheaper/I don’t want to get rejection letters/the applications would be a lot less work, but I don’t want to end up screwed with nowhere to go.)

What usually happens is that someone with your stats will get several free apps by mail and email starting in August. When they are giving a free app, it usually means they are trying to entice you with some high profile scholarships. These are definite safeties.

Are you instate for OSU?

Assuming your GPA is out of 4.0, I think you have a good shot at all of these schools (with safeties = Case and OSU; matches = UM and UCLA matches; and low matches = Wellesley, Smith (at these two ECs might play a factor), Reed (mercurial process that defies easy categorization), and Harvey Mudd (tough standards, but especially likes high SATs and female engineers) given your status as a female interested in engineering with outstanding SATs. EC’s are one part of the picture, but not the end all or be all, especially if you can demonstrate that you did not waste your extra time even thought it was not channeled into ECs.

It’s out of 4.0. It would be a real 4.0 if it weren’t for freshman year gym. :)

“especially if you can demonstrate that you did not waste your extra time even thought it was not channeled into ECs.”

How would I do this?

Update if it matters: 35 ACT (35 E, 36 M, 34 R, 33 S)
I don’t think it’s much of a difference from the 2340 on the SAT but I really like the math score. :D
