If you look on the Villanova website they make it pretty clear that they admit about 15% of their legacies. That being said, I feel that Villanova looks at admissions pretty holistically. You are not just a grade and a test score. There are other things that are pretty important there for admissions. ECs are pretty important too. So, if you have stats a little lower than yours and you did something really amazing or unusual, admissions officers might take the applicant with a little lower stats. They had some pretty amazing ECs listed for the class of 2012.

If some kid's parents built a building or are big donors, you are out of luck. Colleges are businesses, too. But, keep in mind, if a legacy's stats are close, they will probably be given the benefit of the doubt. It isn't always fair, but it is the way of the world.

I wouldn't worry about anyone else but yourself. You can't compare yourself to anyone else in the college admissions game because you can't control admissions. You can only control yourself.

Just wanted to clarify an item in twokidsatvu's post below

"If you look on the Villanova website they make it pretty clear that they admit about 15% of their legacies."

I think what twokidsatvu meant to say is that the freshman class at VU is comprised of about 15% legacies, not that the admission rate for legacies is 15% (that would be lower than the admission rate for the entire applicant pool) - see admission statistics below:

Undergraduate Admission Statistics

VU's official Policy on legacies (see link below) is that "The admission folders for all children of alumni are given special consideration in the evaluation process. Alumni children are traditionally admitted at a rate greater than the overall applicant pool."

Alumni Benefits

You're right....thanks for the clarification!!

oh so in that case it does work to my advantage thanks!
