How much does being a DUKE legacy applying early decision help?

If it is any easier, can you guys tell me how much higher the acceptance rate becomes?
And so what kind of scores should I have? My brother is a sophomore there.

hello? bump bump

I’m a legacy applying ED and I asked the admissions rep who came to my school this exact question. He said there wasn’t a specific acceptance rate that he knew of, but that the rate does become significantly higher. Not sure how much higher, but yeah. Sorry that’s all I know.

thanks! i asked a rep that came in my area and she wasnt really giving much info. but she said that if u have siblings that are close in age they compare them.

as for parents/ grandparents…she said they read the application an extra time(s) and they pay special attention to the fact that the applicant is a legacy.

The legacy acceptance rate for the Class of 2013 was 36%, while it was 18% overall, according to Guttentag. If you’re a legacy your application automatically gets read by one additional person. So, it certainly helps.

Not sure how much things have changed since 2005 - Admissions is still under Guttentag - but here are some specific stats on legacies from that year. Here’ the link, along with the relavent quote that shows a 66% ED and 44% RD legacy admit rate…

“Edith Sprunt Toms ’62, director of Alumni Affairs’ Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee program, gave an update on the Class of 2005. There were 14,647 total applicants, with 3,583 admitted (24.5 percent); final matriculation is targeted at approximately 1,600. There were 515 children of alumni who applied. Of the 109 who applied during Early Decision rounds, sixty-three were admitted (66 percent); of the 406 who applied to the regular pool, 176 were admitted (44 percent). One hundred and two granchildren of alumni applied: sixteen applied early decision, seven were admitted; eighty-six applied regular decisions with thirty-seven admitted, yielding a total of 43 percent accepted.”
