How much does First Generation Matter?

<p>I was wondering how much being "First Generation" matter in college application process to the top 30 schools. Also, am I still considered First Generation if my sister went to college? Both of our parents immigrated to America, so our parents never went to college or through an American high school. </p>

<p>What’s the parent education requirment to qualify First Generation ? if they have AA degree or technical school(never BS or above) outside U.S, do we still qualify?</p>

<p>^^College counts no matter what country it occurred in, however the definition of first gen varies with the school. The CA asks where your parents went to college, when and what degree (if any) earned, each college determines if you fit their definition of first gen.</p>
