There are 3 kids applying ED to duke from my school, one is basically a sure-in because he's amazing and well-rounded, leaving me and the other person. She is a pretty strong candidate and her dad went to Duke.

How much will the legacy affect her chance of getting in? I'm freaking out/being ****ed off because she has a lot better chance of getting in just because of the legacy.

Well, she has a bit better chance, and depending on how much her family donates to Duke, it could be a significant factor. If she's not academically qualified, she probably will have a tough time no matter what, though.

Yeah-- if she's not academically qualified, the fact that her dad is an alum doesn't mean too much. If he donates money, then things change. If it's like a $200 check a year, then it's fairly inconsequential, but if he's donating a sizeable chunk of money than she does habe a leg up. But bear in mind, Duke doesn't really have quotas from individual high schools. If all three of you are qualified, then you'll get in.
