Most people think of college as an opportunity to have a fresh start on life. Some people change drastically and others remain static. I'll be a future college student in the coming fall and I'm curious to know ... How much have you changed since High School? Were you shy and introverted, but later grew to become a more social and outgoing person? Were you the opposite? Did your wardrobe change? Is your personality any different? Are you more organized? How much have you matured?

In high school I was a hard worker. In college I’ve learned to work more efficiently. Otherwise, I don’t think I have changed much.

I’ve gotten more hardworking & more introverted, as well as developing an interest in foreign films…

I’ve become much more outgoing, assertive, and independent. I’ve gained a lot of social experience and discovered a lot about myself that I never knew before. That’s because in high school I was too busy studying hard to get into a pretigious university so I didn’t have time for other things. Now that I’m here I now have time to join clubs and make a lot of friends. I never had any romantic experiences prior to college but I do now. There are plenty of additional things to think about other than keeping your grades high. You need to choose a major that you will graduate with, research careers, think about grad school, whether or not you want to study abroad, where you want to live later, etc. These are important decisions that change how you perceive yourself and how other people perceive you. You are finally discovering yourself, as a result your identity becomes more fine-tuned.

I feel like more of an adult, so yes I do feel like I’ve changed a lot. To answer some of your other questions, yes my wardrobe did change a few times, but it changed a lot even before college. I also did not become more organized.

I feel like I’ve grown up a lot, and I feel like I can relate to people in a better, more mature way. I’ve learned to accept responsibility for my actions as well. I know a lot more about who I am now, and I have learned how to be happy. I just feel like I’ve gotten to experience so many more things and people, and that has given me a better perspective.

Of course, psychedelics have given me a bit of a new perspective too :P

Well, I’ve changed in that my existential crises seem to have doubled in frequency.

Unfortunately, I feel like I’ve become less mature…

In high school everyone told me I was “the kid that every parent dreams of having.” I wasn’t perfect or anything, but I was a high honors student, really outgoing and approachable, involved in the community, well spoken and alcohol/drug free, good looking, and I really had my act together.

Now that I’m in college, I’ve become somewhat reserved, I don’t do as well in school, I don’t feel as “nice” anymore (I try to be, but I feel like I’ve become stand-offish) and I’m not that involved and I drink more than I ever have before and I’ve used drugs a few times. Oh boy.

I really never looked at it this way before… but quite honestly it’s been uphill all semester and I think I’ll go back to my old ways. Being independent does that to you…

I don’t feel that different. I haven’t really done any of that classic college experience stuff. Although I think that fact has made me more introverted unfortunately.
