When I took a practice test not too long ago, I got a 500 on the writing without writing the essay part. Assuming I did well on the essay, would it be enough to bring that 500 up to a 650+

I’m not sure exactly how you scored yourself… in the actually SAT, the scoring scale changes depending on the essay score. For example, you can’t get an 800 on Writing if you get a 10 or lower on the essay. So what score did the book assume?

Was that a 500 assuming you got a 1 on the essay, a 12, an 8, etc?

I took it on collegeboard, so it just counted as a 0, or whatever the minimum score is for the essay

For the writing section:
Essay: 30% of score
MC: 70% of score

It is significant if you write a good essay. I got 71 mc (710) the first time I took the sat and it was brought to a 770 by a 12 essay. At lower scores, the effect is more dramatic, but idk if your situation is possible. It could be

well 30% of 800 is around 230 points right? And I do know that the essay and writing affect each other differently, depending on how well you do on one
