How much money do engineering students make out of college?

We all know that engineering majors are going to be filthy rich, but something is still on my mind. Are the engineering salaries a lot of money, or are they a LOT of money?

Define a lot of money and a LOT of money. Best answer is to look it up. Schools usually have salary surveys.

You, sir, are seriously misguided. Filthy rich? Only if you are lucky.

Try looking at Engineers

I guess its all relative. As a newly graduated BS engineer, you can realistically expect roughly between 50-60K starting, depending on your school, discipline and job location.

Is that a lot of money? It depends on your expectations. To someone from a third world country like China, thats a fortune. But to someone from a middle or upper middle class background in America, thats not much money.

I’d say 95% of engineering graduates make between 45-75k. But only ~60% make between 55k-65K.

I would say just look at the link I provided up in the 3rd post and it will give you all those percentages. =)

I think straight out of undergrad engineers make more than any other major. But past that engineers start falling in the ranks XD look at lawyers, doctors, etc.

Also, I think op meant

prolly just a typo XD

It doesn’t.

it’s a lot of money in comparison to when i was still in school… how 'bout that?

In midwest ya… not in LA…

What do you mean?

Owned, Mr. Payne. Hey, whaddaya know, that is the same site I linked to!

I don’t see it offering a pay distribution, as my post did. But maybe I’m not looking hard enough.

It sure does show the different majors and the 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles of earnings, plus a whole lot more!

Engineers don’t make that much money. Engineering managers do. You’ll easily top 100k if you work your way to management at an engineering firm. It seems to me the biggest obstacle along the way would be surviving the recessions.

Not of newly graduated engineers, which I was obviously referring to.

I believe Table 3 displays the average starting salaries for engineers holding a BS, MS and PhD.

One caveat is that starting salaries vary by school, region, industry and of course the candidate in question. You’ll notice that in some cases a MS earned less than a BS which I find highly unlikely. Also, I bet if you look at the average starting salaries for the top 15-20 schools they’ll be significantly higher. Anyway, use this as a starting point but remember, money isn’t everything!
