how much money do we need?

my son is going to rhode island for culinary, will have a room for $450 per month, a car to manage, food. I am just not sure how much to take out in loans, we need to borrow $4000 for tuition, but otherwise I don't know how much extra. I am new at this, last year he was in a dorm, food plan etc. the college won't help me with an estimate, which I would think they would be able to. I'm trying to factor everything in but am sure I am missing things.

How about asking the Financial Aid office at Providence College? They're in the same town and local cost-of-living should be comparable. Since they award full athletic scholarships, they have to calculate the value of a scholarship with estimated costs for both on-campus and off-campus students, and they should have the off-campus estimate readily at hand.

thank you , that is a good idea. J and W does not offer full scholarships so perhaps that is the problem I am encountering.

BTW, when last I checked, Johnson & Wales had the higest placement rates and among the highest starting salaries in the country. Your S's ability to pay back loans should be top-rate!
