how much of a minority do you have to be to qualify for minority status?

I think most college goes by the US concensus method, that at least one of your parents (not grant parents) must be minority to be consider minority. Using 1/8 hispanic as URM is playing the race card.

yeah that was kind of the point

How does one go about obtaining proper documentation for either native american or hispanic descent?

This an old, outdated thread. As to your question you don’t need it. In fact, there is no college that has actually adopted a rule defining exactly what is a URM except that you need to be Hispanic American, African-American or Native American and international applicants are not given URM consideration. The reason they don’t adopt specific rules is that doing so could itself lead to discrimination lawsuits by persons just below any sepcific line that might be chosen to fix what a URM is. The expectation is that applicants will choose one of the categories if they identify themselves with that group. Colleges seldom if ever do anything to verify the choice.

I do think Native Americans have to show blood documentation.
