besides using your scores to compare people, do the admission office use them for anything else?

Not really, but that in itself is important. Because of that getting above a 90 is a huge plus for HADES and St. Grottlesex.

Apart from comparing applicants with applicants, I think they would also use the SSAT to predict how well the student is going to perform at their school and how likely (s)he will matriculate in a top college after graduation. The latter is more correct with applicants for 11th grade and above I suppose. Oh and they may use the SSAT to compare with the normal standing of the student at school too.

Not really. That is all directly relevant to the percentile which compares applicants.

It matters but they want people who will contribute to their community. Usually that would be someone smart (high SSAT scores) but not always. Sometimes that might take someone with fairly low SSAT scores if they are a great athlete or musician or something.

i think the scores only matter if you have really high scores (97+) or low scores (80-). if you have 97 plus, that could be a hook sort of, because it means that you’re extremely smart, so that means higher sat scores hopefully? low scores can indicate that you’re not able to do the work. however, if your score is 80+ then they probably won’t look at it after that, maybe only to see if you can do the work.

I totally agree with greatescape.

I personally think if you score more or less of the average percentile of the accepted student at the school your applying to, your SSAT scores will already satisfy the the admission officers.

I hope so because I got low 80’s on my SSAT but I have strait A’s, im a great lacrosse player, and a have a long list of EC’s.

it’s important, for certain schools there is an “appropriate” ssat score that they would like but compared to everything else i’d say it’s not as important than let’s say, your interview

I heard Exeter’s cutoff is 85%. You need to have 85 to break the first round. YOu can still get in under 85, but only with a hook. After that the scores don’t matter too much. Of course if you get 97+ it could help you, but there is no real difference between 85 and 90 and 90 and 95.

all of the top boarding schools have some cutoff around 80% from what i’ve heard, since they’re so competitive and elite

Yah… the SSAT’s are just a way for the schools to see whether you are naturally intelligent enough to handle the academic rigor at BS. The SSAT’s son’t necessarily “make or break you,” as long as you get in the 80’s, preferably 85+.
