Right now I am a junior. I understand that I must submit scores from all the SAT and ACT Tests that I have taken. I have taken the SAT 3 times, once near the end of freshman year, and twice in the middle of sophomore year. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize the consequences of taking an official sat.
Now, I am sitting at a 2230 super score, 690 R, 800 M, 740 W. I (and hopefully Stanford) am content with my Math and Writing scores, but my reading score is dismal compared to that of admitted students at Stanford. I was wondering how it would look to Stanford that I took the SAT 3 times and achieved the above as my super score.
Also, I am considering taking the ACT, but I am not sure… Would it be worth taking the new sat? I’m just looking for options. Should I just be content with my current score? I am applying to other colleges as well such as MIT which accepts score choice, so assuming I do well on the ACT/new sat, I could just submit that score and be happy. I’m just wondering how Stanford would react? Currently, it is one of my top choices.
Please don’t take this SAT a fourth time, you have a good score especially having taken it as an underclassman, and should spend time focusing on ECs, developing and pursuing passions, and keeping your grades up instead. If you want to take the ACT do so, but study beforehand so you dont end up taking that multiple times too. If you are that uncomfortable with your CR score, I would take the SAT lit subject test and aim for a 750-800, but I really wouldn’t worry about your current SAT score. In Stanford admissions, stats will only get you so far anyways (also taking the SAT 3 times won’t be a deal breaker so dont worry)
Hey chesspusher I took the three the SAT three times as well and received a below average reading score (680). I was worried as well about taking the test too many times, so I limited myself to 3. I took the ACT once and did much better on that, so there’s a good chance that you will do better on the ACT and they won’t look down at your score. I thought my score would hinder my chances especially since people of my demographic in the top tier schools usually score higher, so I applied to Harvard early since they don’t require all test scores sent. In the end, things have turned out well for both schools Test scores aren’t everything, and I think your score is adequate enough. Focus on the other things or the intangibles, things that can’t be measured like your essays, your activities, etc. Best of luck!!! You are very motivated to take the SAT in your FRESHMAN year that is amazing,
