How much pull do Swarthmore athletic coaches have?

Hi!
I’m a sophomore who is very interested in this school as I love the values and aspects of the school. I am going to be able to play on the varsity golf or tennis team by the time I go to college as I am already quite close to getting to that level and I was wondering how much the coaches could help in my admissions? I don’t necessarily have outstanding EC’s but I believe that my academic aspects are on par or slightly below the average Swarthmore student.

Thank you!

There is no substitute for talking to the coaches. They will tell you exactly how much influence they have. (They can heal the sick but they can’t raise the dead.) If you are indeed “on par or slightly below the average Swarthmore student” you should stand a good chance.

Thank you for the response coase! Do you know when I would be able to contact the coaches? I heard that you can’t contact them until a certain school year.

Timing is everything. If you are as advertised (good student, Division 3 or better athlete), my advice to you is the only help you’ll get is during ED I. If you’re average, your chances plummet during regular decision.

Pick the school you want to go, apply ED, and don’t look back. If you get in…great. If you don’t, you know where you stand on one school and have time to apply to others.

There are few restrictions on DIII coaches contacting prospects. In particular, coaches are free to call or e-mail. There are no restrictions on phone or e-mail contacts initiated by the athletes. Here is a document that gives you the basics: http://www.uaa.rochester.edu/nadiiiaa/Resource%20Documents/d3_off-campus_rec_guide.pdf
Note that the guide is slightly out of date. For instance, the rules regarding texting have been brought in line with those for phone calls and e-mails. Good luck.

Can you play two NCAA sports in college? As I am at a fairly high level in golf AND tennis. 8-> Thanks

Yes you can. Recently, an All-American basketball player also competed as a javelin thrower on the track and field team. Many others have played on two teams. http://www.centennial.org/information/directory/bios/Katie_Lytle
