How much research involvement do you get at other Unis?

I was curious as I went to for grad school interviews this year for Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Medicinal Chemistry the professors seem fairly impressed with the amount of research involvement I had and the fact that I developed my own project from ground up on the undergraduate level from proposal to presenting at ACS. How much research involvement do you have at your University for chemistry? I attend University West Florida and we have no graduate program. So in the end everyone can receive research no mater their GPA, even as Freshmen after Gen Chem I. Is research involvement low in undergraduate where there are grad students making you lean more towards GPA and GRE scores when applying?
