How much should you prepare (academically) before starting college?

For example, I haven't taken a chemistry class (honors chem.) since my sophomore year of high school, and I will be taking a chemistry class my first semester. It isn't Basic Chemistry, but the next one up..... I don't really remember much from the chemistry class I took in high school other than the difference between a proton and an electron. LOL

Do they expect that you don't remember much, or should I review some things so that it is easier once I get into the class itself?

Don't worry about it. If you went to a good school, studied, you will be as prepared as the significant majority. It is common for professors to get an idea of where the class is by asking if you remember X. Then giving a brief review if people look lost, or at least telling you to review it.

You can only help yourself by beefing up before actual classes start. I was amazed at the volume of info that just seeped outta my head after Senior year of HS. Once school started, everything was fast and furious. Unless you feel you'll have great recall memory, I'd grab a text book from the library just to bone up. Not super serious but it can only help. You don't want to fall behind quickly.

A snide joke at my college: Chemistry 115 (the intro Gen'l Chem class), more ex-pre meds who become new Psychology majors come out of that class than anywhere else.
