I’m thinking of self studying 2 ap classes next year and I was wondering how many hours I should study for them. Please recommend good study schedules. Thankyou in advance
What classes are they? Not every AP is the same.
@RMNiMiTz ap psychology and ap human geography.
Like said above, it depends. You obviously wouldn’t want to self-study AP Chem and AP Calc, but I would say self-studying AP Psych and Human Geo is a lot more managable. They are (imo) two of the easiest APs.
thanks @Alllviiinnn
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ap-tests-preparation/369861-self-studying-aps-improving-your-app-p1.html. I don’t know if you’ve seen this thread before but I’m reading through it right now and it seems pretty solid.
Thankyou @harvard2025 that’s really helpful
Also ask yourself why you are doing this?
-
To possibly get credit in college? Go for it!

To look better for admissions for college? Not worth it. Colleges don’t really take AP scores into account…many students wouldn’t take AP classes until senior year and the scores would not be back until after you are already admitted to college. Colleges are more interested in how you do in HS classes.
Thanks @bopper Ig I’m doing it for both but mainly for the credit
Doesn’t your HS offer these courses? Colleges would rather see student’s take the HS course vs. self studying however, if they are not offered then it is fine to self study. Also check out your target colleges since some many not accept AP credit for Human Geography. AP credit policies differ from school to school.
