For example, someone can have a 3.8 GPA and have one or two Bs or Cs. If one were to have a high LSAT score with that (say, 173) would he or she have a chance at a t14 school?

Yes, if some one has a 3.83 and a 173 they have a really good chance of being picked up at more than one t-14 schools.

Law schools care absolutely nothing for individual grades except to the extent they inform your overall GPA.

I had a GPA in that area, one C, some B’s, and got into several top 25 law schools and was wait listed at Yale. Lsat was 95th percentile.

and regarding T14, which I guess means top 14, I got into 1 for sure, not sure whether another school was in T14 or not, and my safety was either in top 20 or top 25. i applied to either 3 or 4 top 14 schools, was rejected by one, waitlisted by another(Yale as noted above), and got into the other ones.

Only time it may hurt application(may being the operative word) is if the lower grades were received during the most recent grading period submitted.

So from what I’m gathering, one or two lower-than-average grades shouldn’t destroy a law school application?

I made the mistake of taking a complicated political science class (my major) along with a heavy-reading literature class. In the latter, I’m averaging an A, but the former class’ midterm was much tougher than I expected. Hopefully all of this reading will help me prepare for law school, but I may very well end up with a C in that polisci class.

Those numbers are a lock for the T14, absent disastrous recs and/or convictions for assault.

tend to agree with bluebayou although i’m not up on current law school apps. Your overall GPA is great by anyone’s standards and law schools when i applied seemed more focused on the overall GPA than an occasional, or in ur case, a sporadic C. As I noted, i had one C and i doubt it had any impact on my admission chances. i am assuming your LSAT score noted above is solid. if u have not taken the LSAT yet, take a prep course. I found mine helpful and I practiced some everyday I want to say for about a month before the exam. the prep course also gave me good prep materials and a quiet place to practice. i was well prepared and did fine on the LSAT. for me, the regular practice took away pretest jitters and I was confident going in.

Just got back my PoliSci midterm. A. Guess I worry too much Thanks for the responses!
