Um....right. Have you looked at the figures over in balmy CA??!!?!!? 1bed 1bath apartment in La Jolla, CA for $1.5MM.....you can get at least 2bed/2bath for 1.5MM in NYC.

dont be so sure. 5 years ago my house on SI was worth a fourth fof what it is now.

and lets all be reasonable. 1K a month is what it would cost you to lease a Jaguar. do you lease a jag?

ways to save money in NYC and college, and both:
-stock up on food from home
-buy in bulk, even when it comes to clothing. (6-pack of plain white tees for 'lounging' around in will run you 10 bucks)
-PLAN your meal plan. if you can get by on 10 a week, get by on 10 a week.
-buy books used
-walk. taxi fares and MetroCards add up.

this should all seem pretty obvious. I think that, right now, i run on about $30 a week. anyone i know could easily get by on less than $100 a week (avg. some weeks you need to buy stuff like books and supplies, etc). Yes you are paying for a certain standard of living in NYC, but really, this is the full spectrum here. Try living hand-to-mouth. After a few weeks the only luxury i afforded myself was my cell phone, and it was like $40 bucks and got the minimal plan. Youre more than a student now, youre a consumer.

MAN i wish i had 1K a month

I plan to go out about one night per week (clubs or bars). How much does an average night out cost (assuming that I ride subway both ways, get a few drinks.. etc)?

hupkorea: What does "an average night out" mean? If you plan on an evening of karaoke with your 15 best buds, all of you could easily drop $400 for the room charge and food, leaving you with about a $25 bill, plus transportation. If you plan on taking your best friend out to a swanky restaurant and then to the hottest new club in Manhattan, you could spend $200 just on food, cover charges, and drinks, let alone the price of a taxi. The price of nightlife really depends on what you're doing.

at the same time you could go to an open mic or an acoustic performance at a coffee bar and pay for your latte

^^Which is also a lot cooler, in my opinion, than some swanky restaraunt
