My DD earned about $7,000 at a parttime job this past year and is now a freshman at Vandy. Financial aid was very generous and just wondering how her income will affect financial aid for sophomore year. We were hoping to use the money for books and transportation, but I'm so worried that future aid will be reduced dollar for dollar by her earnings. Does anybody have any experience with this?

I never remember my paid summer jobs/internships changing the financial aid. I would have to go back and look at everything more closely though.

I would contact your financial aid officer directly. It should have an effect on financial aid, but it should not be significant.

I believe there is a “student contribution” factored into financial aid at a value of like $2500 or $3000, meaning thee first $3000 of student income has no effect on financial aid. Not sure how it works after that.
