How Much $$$$$

My daughter has been asked to give private art lessons to a student. She was asking me how much to charge for an hour lesson. Frankly, I have no idea. My daughter has graduated from RISD, has gallery representation and an impressive CV. (But then I'm her Mom). Has anybody had some experience with this sort of thing??? Thanks for taking your time to help.

$50-60 is my guess for one-on-one instruction. Many professional tutors get $80 and more, so $50 or $60 should be a floor.

In general I pay in the range of $65 to $100 per hour for voice lessons and academic/ AP / sat tutoring for high school aged students. $65 is a real bargain and I think the tutor is unaware that she is charging bargain rates.

So if it is for art lessons for a high school aged student I would charge in that range. If they want input for portfolio development, I would charge toward the higher end.

For younger students I would charge on the lower end…

I would also guess it would be relevant where you live and what things cost there. Here, the high school teachers who tutor after school get $75/hour. They all have masters. So, here I would say $50 to $60 would be all that one could charge.

Thank you for all the responses. I wanted to give feedback to help the next young adult out there with this question. My daughter has been teaching a private student for 2 years now. She is a RISD graduate and a practicing artist. She is paid about 85$/hr. (2015 price)
