At my school, they make AB a prerequisite for BC, meaning that if you want to take both, you have to take AB in the fall and BC in the spring (block schedule). At this moment, I am only planning to do AB. I could make room in my schedule to do both, but I am not confident about it because then I would have to take them along with AP Bio (all year), APES, and 2 other DE courses. Math is a very strong subject for me especially in algebra, but I did struggle with trig in pre calc.
Because of this, I am not taking the most rigioruous math in my school. How looked down upon would this be? I am also taking those courses listed above, and I took AP chem, AP stats, regular physics (didn’t do AP because class had very bad rep at my school), DE Eng Comp, DE US History junior year, and I took all honors and ap human geo in freshman and sophomore year. I believe that all of that is already very rigorous, but I would like some clarification. Thanks
Assuming that your GC rates your schedule as “most demanding” then it’s fine. No college in the country has an expectation of needing to take AP Calc BC. That said, you will likely need calc 2 (and beyond) in college as a chem major, so it comes down to take in now vs take it later.
Honestly most schools won’t care that much. Also most schools no longer trust the AP calc standards so from what I know if ur majoring in STEM they most likely will make u retake calc
what would you release the BC portion with?
Actually, AP calculus is probably the most commonly accepted AP for advanced placement.
Pre-meds are still likely to need to take some math and statistics in college, rather than relying only on AP scores.
Oh really? I didn’t know. I guess I was talking from experience since most of my friends who had taken the calc exam and scored a 4-5 were made to retake it (mostly engineering, physics, and chem majors). I’m really sorry if that was wrong @ucbalumnus thanks for correcting me.
What colleges did they attend?
Some state colleges like UMD, Wisco, Penn and others top 20.
