How often did you go home?

If you went to BS how often did you go back home if you lived like across the country or you were international? Just winter break and summer? or every break? What did you do if you didnt go back?

Some schools provide host families for students who live too far away to get home for breaks. You might otherwise have the option of staying with friends. But no school is going to leave you stranded just because you live too far away to go home for every break!

We don’t live across the country, but the time of travel and our costs are similar. Our son came home every major break–it’s a major expense, but the vacations are long, and we all needed the family time. A few of his halfway across the globe international friends stayed with relatives or friends for Thanksgiving and spring; otherwise, it looked to me like just about everyone traveled home for the longer breaks.

Depends on schools. I find that schools with mostly boarders have longer Spring breaks than schools with a good percentage of day students.

We lived 15 hour drive or 3-5 hour flight distance (direct or with connections) so it was just for long breaks. Fall break was with Parents’ Weekend so we just took them to a near by city. NYC or Boston. Thanksgiving is about a week long. Winter break and Spring break. In Junior year, you should use Spring break time to visit colleges.

I ended up using my frequent miles for their flights.

My parents say they are willing to pay 10,000 a year for school, which means that if i wait to apply to say, Exeter, for senior year(they allow them to apply) I could prolly apply as a FP then. Do you think I should wait and apply for my last year of HS or should I just do it now(I would be applying for FA) and then if i don’t get in or get enough FA, that’s an option.

Sorry, I didnt mean that for this thread

Now. I think it’s easier to apply for junior than senior year. Plus, you would have more time to adapt to BS life and the make lover friendships. IMHO I don’t think I would apply for senior year given the choice because most of the senior graduating class is already so close then.
