Er, my classes are either for only an hour twice week or 3.5 hours once a week. It’s really how the department has it set up. I just see no point in skipping them since I would have too much catching up to do.

When I had gen eds, I used to skip much much more. First semester, I went to pre-calc for about 3 classes plus tests (my schools math placement test, psht >.>). Classes were larger, too, so many of them didn’t have attendance either.

Lammb it’s about time investment. Especially if there’s a gap before, it really makes me question should i stick around. If the teacher is just plagiarizing the textbook in their lectures, there’s really no point in going. I skipped all of one class for the 2nd half and it made no diff at all. I think that prof should be fired honestly. Now i notice a lot will go anyway and just write a paper and half pay attention, sort of multitask. But again, an effective teacher will be engaging so you’ll want to be there.

@lammb66: Not all classes are created equal. There are some truly terrible professors out there that make actually attending the class an honest-to-goodness waste of time. Last semester, I learned more physics from reading the textbook than I ever did from my professor. I still went to most classes, but I probably shouldn’t have. It was poor time investment and I could have spent that time in class doing more useful things.

That would be my only rationale for skipping class though. I don’t normally do it.
