This is just a question out of curiosity. I've read a few places that Rice is very apathetic towards politics, but I'm just wondering how much truth this holds. And is it still true this close to the presidential elections? Also, is Rice more to the left, or to the right in terms of which side the support.

According to my son, Rice students never talk politics. And they don’t talk about why they don’t talk about politics, so I have nothing else to add.

I talk about politics with my friends all the time - would almost claim daily basis. And I’m an engineering major (though I am involved in Rice Dems and the Baker Institute Student Forum). We bring plenty of politicians to campus to speak, offer internships with congressmen, work for campaigns, etc etc.

I either get into or listen to political discussions fairly frequently actually, probably a couple times a week.

There are several outlets for the politically active, however in my experience, the campus is fairly apathetic.

I would say Rice leans slightly to the left. Socially liberal for sure. There are people on the far end of the scale in both directions though.

The majority of campus is pretty apathetic. With the election coming up though there will be more activity. I know that the Rice Dems are organizing phonebanks and that type of thing.
