i’m thinking of going here for undergrad and majoring in history and business, and one of my top choices for business school is stanford. does stanford generally accept applicants from amherst if you keep your grades up? also, like my title said, exactly how prestigious is it?

in one word, amazing. grad schools think of williams and amherst on the same level as harvard and yale. true story.

just curious huskem, but how do you back up a claim like that?

I'm interested because Amherst is one of my top choices.
Thanks!

because i know several people who work in admissions at undergrad schools and grad schools. and have spoken to professors at both undergrad and grad schools about how liberal arts schools hold up against universities.

Schools like Amherst, Williams, Swat, etc. have a very good history of getting their students into the best grad schools, law schools, and med schools. Admissions counselors know that these, the best of the LACs, offer an amazing, thorough, undergrad-focused education. You can't go wrong if you pick Amherst.

Amherst is also better known among the general population tham Williams and some of the lesser-known Ivies. In fact, some people mistakenly think of it as an Ivy. So, if name recognition is important to you, you can have a degree of that as well.

I'll admit, when I go home for breaks people ask me where I go, and they have not idea what Amherst is or how great of an education it offers. Granted, the people who have no clue went to really terrible schools and probably would scratch their heads at the name of Standford, Columbia, Williams, Swath, etc. But the people who matter know what Amherst is. It's a great community and education. I definitely know that it will prepare me for whatever I decide to do.
