How safe is the area?

I know it's in OC but I also know everywhere has its sketchy parts. is this particular area safe for students to walk around the surrounding area at any given time of the day? when I dish out my efc I want it to be worth it so if theres a lot of crime, around essential nearby stores, then I am crossing this place off the list.

thanks! first post btw!

I’ve lived in Orange County almost all my life and Chapman is in about the safest part possible in it. (In the OC, sketchy places would be in certain parts of Placentia, Santa Ana, and Long Beach, maybe.) Located in a suburb area where the ‘downtown’ part consists of antique shops. That makes it sound pretty stodgy but really, it’s a nice area, crime is super low, and there shouldn’t be anything to worry about.
Wish I had some actual facts to cite, sorry  I would recommend doing research on your own because I’m only voicing my own opinion.

I concur with edthegurl, in my impressions of the area. It was all low density, 50’s vibe in the cute downtown, with quick access to highways. Although older feeling, in a cozy way, it was very well preserved, which shows an active concern on the part of the locals. All of that would seem to indicate a community which keeps itself safe and moving forward. There were also many banners, posters for churches/bible study in the area, which would indicate to me that there are families in the community. In concept I am lukewarm about organized religion, but I do acknowledge many contributions that churches make to their communities, and Orange seems to have more than their fair share of houses of worship.

The only way I can describe the area…
Is you know in Back to the Future, courthouse square (in the 50ies)?
Well…thats what it reminds me of haha…Old shops, central little town square, its a very nice area

yeah, it’s pretty safe. I wouldn’t walk around by myself late at night though. Call public safety if you need an escort. The high school next door is a little sketch and there was one incident of crime in the area recently.

it’s a great little town.

Very. However, they used to quarantine TB patients about a mile or two from Chapman. They were housed between Tustin Avenue and 55. I don’t know if they still do. It made the news and the community got pretty upset some time back.

A while back there was a criminal justice survey and people in that area felt the safest of all areas of Orange County.

I heard something about a gang injunction through which college aged kids are being rounded up because they may have been seen standing next to someone who may have known someone who knew someone who may have been part of a gang. Really. I hear it’s guilt by association of any kind with anyone who may have been associated with anyone who may have been associated with a gang. Basically, the injunction, unless it is overturned, allows the police to round up anyone in Orange at any time. I heard an attorney talking about trying to get that thrown out. From what I gather there is no problem with crime, only with the police.
